Large Black Cardamom (also called big cardamom, greater cardamom, or moti elaichi) refers to the dried pods of Amomum subulatum, cultivated in the eastern Himalayas (Nepal, Bhutan, north‑eastern India). These larger (2–3 cm), rough-textured dark brown to black pods are traditionally dried over open flames, imparting a distinctive bold smoky‑camphor‑menthol aroma with hints of citrus and eucalyptus, markedly different from green cardamom’s floral sweetness.
